Arrow: "Full Circle" Trailer Analysis

Updated on March 5, 2014

Arrow has been an impressive show in it's first two seasons that has brought the Green Arrow mythos and turned them in a way to make a much more compelling dramatic television series. The first season was good, but this current season has been greater especially now that as the new trailer suggests things are coming full circle. Oliver Queen has done a lot of good but as all heroes now, when you put on a mask you tend to bring other people around that are just as screwed up as you are without a heroes resolve. For instance, look at Batman and the Joker or in this case Oliver and the Huntress. Every thing Oliver has done in his short run as a vigilante of Starling City has always had a repercussion, good or bad, and now all of his mistakes are coming to the fore-front in what looks to be an explosive end to the season. In this article I will look into the recent trailer CW has released and how it will affect the rest of the season.

"Team Arrow"

Obviously the reveal of Slade Wilson still being alive and well takes Oliver for a loop and forces him to make sure he puts Slade in the ground for good this time. However, with Slade's super strength he knows that he is still at a disadvantage more so then before. It is likely that Oliver was able to defeat Slade before due to his deteoriating mental state and reveal of Shado's death being Oliver's fault. Anger can be a great motivator but also lead you to making grave mistakes, but now fast forward five years later I am sure that Slade has had plenty of time to plot out Oliver's demise. This forces Oliver to adapt to the situation and realize thanks to Sara that he cannot do this alone. Thus Felicity, Sarah and even Roy help him defeat Slade and his allies. It will set up a very interesting last few episodes that for sure will have plenty of big action sequences.

Deathstroke

Slade's re-emergence is an immediate problem for Oliver as Slade plans to destroy Oliver and all he cares about. Seeing how Oliver is already feuding with his mother of recent revelations, it will be easy for Slade to tear about his family. Thea is vunerable to this the most, leaving me to believe that there is a good possibility that Slade will hurt her. Doing this will also force Roy to truly put aside his selfishness and work closely with Oliver to take down Slade. However, Slade is clearly not working alone. I really like the sentiment that Oliver is responsible for the descent into darkness that Slade and the Huntress had gone through. The trailer seems to suggest that there will be a face-off between the Huntress and Sara Lance, which again makes sense as Oliver is responsible for where both of them are in their lives with their dual personalities. Having said that, it again makes sense for Slade to use the Huntress against Oliver but I am not sure where Brother Blood fits into this fight. I don't think anyone would be foolish enough to think that Blood could hold his own against Oliver, Sara or Roy in a fight unless this is where his grunt and long rumored Solomon Grundy would come into play. Cyrus Gold is the one everyone looks to for that part seeing how he "died" in a fight with Oliver. These theme of Oliver's actions having repercussions would again, come full circle, as all of his enemies would be a direct result of his actions in the past with Slade at the fore-front of it all.

Suicide Squad

The weakest part of the trailer would be that of the revelation of the Suicide Squad. Now, it is nice to see them integrated into the show but I don't think it a good time for it at all. It is as if the writers had forgotten how to use Diggle so they are throwing him a bone with this story arc and his continued hatred with Floyd Lawton. It is even more perplexing that Diggle would even entertain the thought of working together with Floyd once again. He did so before for good reason, and if he is doing it again then the only reason would have to be to take out Slade. The Suicide Squad seems to have an interest in Slade making him a target so if Diggle knew this, he would also know that if he had a way to take out a threat to his best friend he would do his best to do so. Other then that, I doubt it'll be a story arc that will last more then one episode. I doubt Diggle would continue working with them and especially Floyd. Due to how Diggle has become an increasingly smaller part of the show, I am also beginning to think that he will jump ship and be heading to the Flash series.
